ONE WORD
Use this exercise when looking at
several photographs of one site either working with postcard images or in the
museum gallery. Ask students to choose one word to describe what they see in
the photographs as a whole. Share selected words with your class. Examples might
include "helping," "neighborhood," or specific descriptions such as "fishing,"
or "sheep." Each one-word description will become an opportunity to ask leading
questions, such as "What about the photographs suggested this word to you?"
Students should cite specific details seen within the work to support their
responses. Have students collaborate to construct a poem from the one-word descriptions
their group identified
