Print Study
The Center’s renowned print study program gives the public free and unprecedented access to one of the world's largest photography collections, by appointment. The print study room is staffed by members of Center’s Education Department, who pull out the requested prints and are available to assist with the selection of images by suggesting photographers, techniques, or subjects that complement requested areas of interest and study. Groups of twenty or fewer can also make an appointment for a print study session, and kindergarten through university classes are invited to work with Education staff to create customized sessions to fit their curriculum. The print study room is designed to allow visitors to see original photographs in an intimate setting, but without handling the prints. To learn more and to make an appointment, call 520-621-7968.
What Is the Print Study Program?
Print study is a unique opportunity for the public to see original works of art of their choice from Center’s photograph collection. The program allows access to more than 60,000 prints by nearly 2,000 photographers, by appointment.
How to Arrange a Print Study Session
- Make a reservation in person at the Information Desk in the Center’s lobby, or by phone at 520-621-7968. Sessions may be scheduled on most weekday afternoons. Groups and classes must arrange print study sessions in advance with Curator of Education Cass Fey. All others must confirm appointments with the Information Desk. If you need to cancel an appointment, call at least 24 hours in advance.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment and fill out the PrintViewing Selection Form in the 2nd-floor reception area. Additional time may be needed to select the work you want to see. You may request to view up to three boxes of prints per one-hour reservation. Follow step 3 to select the work you want to see.
- Decide what photographs you will see by checking the list of Photographers in the Collection and the listings of works in the Photograph Collection (you can research both of these lists before your visit, or by using the binders in the reception area when you arrive at CCP). Write both the photographer's name and the tier/shelf location of the box on the Print Study Selection Form. Exceptions: Viewing oversized prints requires discussion at least two days in advance with Curator of Education Cass Fey; a few prints in the collection are restricted because of fragility.
- Just before the hour, the Print Study Assistant will pick up your Print Study Selection Form and will begin to set up your customized session.
